One of the advantages Jim has with all his years of experience in the hunting world is a huge network of friends and contacts who often have the inside track to hidden hot spots that the general hunting public hasn’t caught onto yet. This hunt in Tanzania is for new quota just made available to one of Jim’s personal friends is just such an opportunity. We have two areas to offer here that can be hunted separately or as a combination.
The first area is a very unique opportunity to go after one of the most difficult trophies to obtain in all of Africa – the Sitatunga. Due to the very unique habitat these magnificent animals require, there are only a few areas that hold any significant numbers and we have an arrangement to offer four hunts in the same area that Jim took the new world record muzzle loader Sitatunga in 2007. The odds of taking another magnificent trophy like Jim’s are very high in this concession due to difficult access, which has led to very low hunting pressure for a long time. While on this safari, a quota for crocodile is also available.
The second area in another concession discovered by Jim’s friend that hasn’t seen any significant cat hunting pressure in almost five years. The density of lions and leopards here is so high and the pressure is so low, the concession owner regularly saw both types of cats on baits during day light hours last season. Only one lion and one leopard were taken from this area (which is nearly 1200 sq kilometers) in 2007, so there are plenty of undisturbed cats waiting for you in 2008. This area is also known for trophy sable, roan, greater kudu, eland and other plains game. Although a cape buffalo is a possibility in this area, it should not be considered a primary focus on this hunt.
Hunting camps are nice, large tents with toilets, showers, etc. and are fully staffed to take care of you when the hunting is over each day. Hunting will be done with a PH who has specialized in large cat hunting for over 35 years and has that “sixth sense” often required to fill a tag with these highly intelligent animals. His family goes back to the very beginnings of professional hunting – his grandmother was the first ever certified female PH in Tanzania – so he has hunting in his blood and will do everything possible to make your trip a success.
Whether the big cats are your passion or you are looking for a highly specialized trophy such as a Sitatunga, we have two new opportunities that you should consider for this upcoming season. If you are interested in hearing more about either of these great adventures contact us at:
